9. Questions for the letters Due Fri. Dec 6th

For this week's question cycle you may read letters from any of the blogs. Be sure to include the class along with the name of the author you are questioning. Ask tough questions of the letters, they're going to the President and they are about your financial future therefor they have to be sharp.

Genna L. of class 723 said that she thinks that the U.S. Treasury and the Federal Reserve should lend us money to build libraries, schools, roads, bridges and tunnels. My question to Genna is how will we, the American citizens be able to pay the U.S. Treasury and the Federal Reserve back on the money they loan us? Yes it is true that this will create jobs and more people will make more money to spend, but then what? Do we then raise taxes to help us pay back the loan? I don't think that borrowing more money at this time is a solution but rather an extension of the problem?

Dia Abdullah from Class 702 said that he thinks that they should tax big businesses instead of litle grocery stores. If they tax the big companies, they're going to have to pay more money because of the larger quantities of money they make. If they don't pay, that puts them in debt, which creates big taxes. If you tax a small grocery store, it's not as big a dent if they don't pay the tax because they don't make amounts of money as large (Means less tax debt, so smaller taxes). So my question is, why shouldn't they tax little grocery stores? Of course it will hurt communities, but taxing large companies hurts everybody.

Biancat in 702 states this,
“an other thing is about the oil, i think people should drive on hibred cars to save oil. i also have an other idia. i think taxes should go down. it is too much.

Here’s the problem, some people don’t drive hybrid cars or electronic ones because it takes money and time to build them. While in the economic crisis that is today, getting the money for these cars would be very hard to get. So where and how are we going to get the money for these cars? Also, Obama is lowering taxes as it is; so this is a good thing. But then if you think for one second, you find out that some of the town or city events and other things come from taxes. Even though these things are caused by taxes, some people lose their homes and money because of that, too. So then, with this in mind, should we really lower our taxes?

Imani Clake of class 702 stated that the car industry can invest money on inventing car models that dont run on gas, but on corn and speacials herbs. she said it will help th environment. My question is what is the environmetal factor on the economy?

Victoria Khem stated that Obama should lower taxes. People will stop shopping at the two known companies like Macy's and Gap. The problem is that if people stop shopping at the big companies, those businesses make less money and cut back on buying more inventory . They will probably also cut workers' hours and maybe their entire jobs making them spend less money themselves, so the economy contracts.

Michelle in class 702
Michelle thinks that car industries should stop making fuel cars, and start making electricity cars. How do they find the time and money to build the cars. They will use enough money that the fuel cars got them, and the leftovers to keep the company active.

Michelle also says that people should stop buying unnecessary needs. People will get bored without Tv, Internet and Game Systems. She also stated that people should stop smoking. If they were addicted to smoking, they will continue smoking until their dead. They will act very strange without cigarettes if they will not get a puff or two.

Mohamed Elsaid from 723 said from his weblog "You can also make more trades with countries we owe money to. Like China, if we get loans from them, you can pay them back in goods. For example, spices and meterials. I know that we will not cover all of what we owe them but we can save money that way.I’m not saying your other proposals weren’t good enough, but we need to improve them. For example, restoring fairness to the tax code and provide 95 percent of working Americans the tax relief they need by creating tax credits of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family. My question to you Mohamed is "do you prefer giving stuff to people that you owe or do you prefer giving back what you own to him?"

Oznur Gul from 724, stated that she thinks the most important proposal is the “90-day moratorium on most home foreclosures” because it might give people time to earn some more money to pay off their debt. She thinks that people should have more time and money to pay. My question is, how will the bank give money to hundreds of people who have debts? As you can see, the economy is decreasing and a lot of people are in debt. Would the bank have enough money to pay the people?

Steven Ferraro of class 727, said that Obama's plan to allow citizens to take out of there retirement fund without penalty should be implied immediately. Well although that will be able to help some people through this crisis, what will happen to them when they are at the age to retire and they don't have any money or pension to help them. So my question is: "What can be done to help insure that the person will be able to get a pension or retirement funding support?"

Mohamed Elsaid said:

instead of just making people not pay tax if they are unemployed, is to find a job for them. And when they make enough pay they can pay low taxes. Then, the higher they get paid they can pay higher taxes. So, instead of making peoples lives harder you can improve it and make them successful.
You can also make more trades with countries we owe money to. Like China, if we get loans from them, you can pay them back in goods. For example, spices and meterials. I know that we will not cover all of what we owe them but we can save money that way.
Just saying that you will fix the economy dosen’t mean that you can do it 100%. But all Americans are with you and we believe in you. So, if you want to get re-elected again in 2012, you should do as much as you can to help our economy.
My question to you is wat if we dont owe any money other countries.

Victoria Khem of 727 said that Obama should lower taxes by having people stop shopping at stores like Macys or Gap. But if they do that the workers will lose their jobs. Worse is that will lead to more problems in the economy.

Ian Chwatuk of class 702 said that the major car companies might have to fire the employees of the companies and the had earned less money. That might happen because of the bailout. So he suggests that the government should tell peopel to by American products to help the American companies gain more money.
my question for him is : Why should the government make the people of the united states by product from the American companies, why can't they buy from somewhere else besides the united States? Also, didn't they already have gasoline -saving cars?

Beatrice M. said...

Ramsha Rana from class 703 said that she thinks that all the Car companies should stop making fuel cars and should start making cars that run on electricity or organic, hybird cars.
My question is: It already costs a lot of money to keep the car companies open and hybrid cars would cost way more than regular cars. Why would people agree to pay extra money if it still might take some time to create the cars?

Victoria Khem stated tat…………
People should stop buying things from Macys or Gap, which are the two known companies with high tax.

Question: If we stop shopping how are people going to be able to keep there jobs because there is no incomes and people are not going to be able to support them selves or there families. We can’t break this specific chain.

Karina_Royzen said...

Rebecca Kwong of 727 stated: "The people would start to stop buying things from known companies like Macy's and Gap (with all of the high taxes). The businesses would end up earning less money. The workers wouldn't need to work as much or even work at all. When they don't work as much they won't get paid as much. And when they don't earn enough money, they can't buy as much things. All because of high taxes."
My question is - Why are these stores raising there taxes?

Elijah_harden said...

Hcole of class 724 stated President-Elect Barack Obama should lower taxes and convince people to buy more things in hopes of not getting in debt. As well as excluding unemployed and retired personal from paying taxes.
My question is if he were to lower taxes would we have to tap into other sources of money to fund certain things? Wouldn’t we also eventually go bankrupt if he were to suggest people to spend money they don’t have?

Brian Donahue, 727, said that we should use the retirement money to pay off the taxes. I disagree with this idea because the retirement money is used for paying for many things like food, clothing, rent, bills, and other things. If people don’t have the money to pay for all these things they will be in big debt with the US. My question to Brian is: If we use the retirement money to pay off the taxes how will people who are retired be able to pay all of the things like food and other necessities?

Alisha Bunting said...

Sharena Austin of class 724 said that she thinks the best proposal is to allow Americans to borrow from retirement savings without a tax penalty. My question is will there be a limit to the amount that can be borrowed? If people borrow from their retirement savings and don't return, they won't have anything left. So when they retire since they don't have any money they may have to continue to work.

Timmy_mei said...

Steven Ferraro of class 727 said they should raise funds for libraries, schools, roads. Then they would have to raise taxes and be able to pay off any other loan. But my question to Steven is if they raised taxes then we would lose our money trying to spend on things we want.

In Rebecca Kwongs statement, she asked Barack Obama to lower the taxes for people to pay less.
There is a disadvantage and a n advantage to this. The disadvantage is that if we pay less for taxes, then less money goes to the goverment and they can't divide money to different things such as: money to the war, money to the homeless, money to the low income, and money to the SSI people, and the left over money to the Economy. The advantage is that if we pay more for taxes, then the goverment will have some left over money to put into the Economy! This way our economy will once rise again and there will be more jobs for the unemployed.
